An Early Typecast Prototype
on Monday 19th of September 2011
For those of you waiting for access to the beta, here’s a video of our first prototype.
The idea for Typecast has been kicking around since mid-2010 when we realised that there was a gap forming between the gloriously messy design exploration stage, and the serious task of hunkering down to prototype something in the browser.
Earlier this year we put together a prototype web app to solve this problem for ourselves. You can see in the video that it lets you load web fonts, style content by eye, then publish your work as HTML & CSS. When we showed it around at the Ampersand web typography conference in June, we discovered very quickly that we weren’t the only ones who could see the need for a better way to design with web fonts.
Since then, we’ve been talking to a small group of beta testers to better understand the challenges designers face when working with web fonts
We’ve stopped adding new accounts to the beta for the time being so that we can focus on the next release. We’ll be blogging about the lessons we’ve learned from your feedback and our plans for the future over the coming weeks.
